Neki su izvori zastupali ideju prehrane koja bi mogla utjecati na umno\u017eavanje virusa, a drugi je osporavali. Posljednjih je godina provedeno nekoliko znanstvenih studija i multicentri\u010dnih pra\u0107enja koje su potvrdile vezu arginina i lizina s herpesnom infekcijom. I to ne stoga \u0161to arginin sam po sebi mo\u017ee izazvati ponovnu epizodu, ve\u0107 je &#8216;in vitro&#8217; dokazano da on stimulira umno\u017eavanje virusa. Kontrolirane studije pokazale su da poja\u010dan unos lizina mo\u017ee osobu koja u sebi nosi virus herpesa u\u010diniti otpornijom na virusnu infekciju, to jest smanjiti joj u\u010destalost ponovnih epizoda. To\u010dan mehanizam tog djelovanja nije spoznat, ali pretpostavlja se da je to prvenstveno stoga \u0161to lizin inhibira djelovanje arginina na virus.<\/p>\n<p>Iako je korisnost lizina dokazana, nije napravljen dovoljan broj znanstvenih istra\u017eivanja na temelju kojih bi se mogla ustanoviti terapeutska doza (u ispitivanjima su kori\u0161tene doze od 3000 miligrama dnevno). Zagovaratelji kontrole unosa aminokiselina predla\u017eu preventivnu dozu od 500-1000 miligrama, te terapijsku od 3000-6000 miligrama dnevno, rapore\u0111enu u tri obroka.
